Blah, Blah, Blogging

As we head into the spring and summer months I am excited to know that the museum will soon have a few talented young college students participating in our Intern program.

Shannon Baird and Sarah Cawley will be on hand for the summer to help keep the museum staffed and in working order.  They both seem very enthusiastic and genuinely excited to participate in the program, and I couldn’t imagine a summer without interns running around, as this program is now in its 12th year. I have fond memories of each young lady and gent that has graced our museum as interns over the years; so many projects, field trips, hard work and historical good times to recall.  And the kids have ranged in age from 14-20, so everyone gets a chance.  I am happy to report that many of them keep in touch and are doing well in their pursuits, and I am pleased to have met and shared some time with each of these outstanding young people.

Speaking of outstanding young people, Kevin Riccio is the latest of a few fine young men to complete their Eagle Scout Project for the benefit of the Society.  He and two other members of Troop 5 of Dingmans Ferry will be honored at the Museum on May 31, 2014.

Get in those entries to the Zane Grey Fishing Derby!  All entries will be eligible for the grand prize:  A deluxe canoe set donated by Old Town Canoe!  Official rulers are available at the Columns, Zane Grey National Historic Site, Pike County Outfitters, Pike County Commissioners Office and many other sporting shops in the area.

I am looking forward to something new in the form of the Lemon Social we will be hosting on June 8th.  Break out the yellow and come and join in the fun!  Please reserve your place early by calling 570-296-8126 or emailing me at

We are looking towards the summer tourism season with great anticipation!  Remember, we are open Wednesday THRU Sunday from 1-4 during the months of July and August.  Bring the family and friends and take a stroll through the history of Pike County!

With every good wish,
