Welcome to our new website!

Dear Friends in History,

Welcome to our new website!  It is my intention to keep you all informed of the curiosities of history as they may, or may not, apply to Pike County.  My latest fascination is reading old newspapers.  Everything about them is fascinating.  From the articles and advertisements to the news itself and its historical value. Our library and archives contain newspapers on micro-film or in physical form dating back as far as the early 1800’s.  A popular feature in these old gems is the gossip!  I could not imagine reading our local paper today and having it include “who’s having a lemon social with who” and “who’s playing cards at who’s house”.  The scandal!  I guess the modern day equivalent is the Police Blotter.  I am, however, planning a “lemon social”.  Is anyone familiar with this tradition?  Details to follow…

Blah Blah Blog. With every good wish,

Lori
